Why schema matters more for AI than for SEO

Search engines have to parse natural language and infer meaning. AI models can do that too, but schema.org gives them a clean, unambiguous machine-readable description. Same content, much higher chance of accurate citation. Add schema once, benefit indefinitely.

Organization schema (essential)

Every site should have Organization or LocalBusiness schema on the homepage. Tells AI exactly what the entity is, where, what it does, who runs it. Without this, AI guesses from page text. Use Google's structured data tool to validate.

Article schema (for content sites)

Every blog post or guide should have Article schema with author, publication date, and a summary. This is what AI uses to credit and cite content.

FAQPage schema (for question content)

Pages with a Q&A format should include FAQPage schema. AI models very often surface answers from FAQPage-marked content because it's already in a question-answer structure.

Product / Service / LocalBusiness

If you sell things, Product schema with offers, ratings, availability. If you provide services, Service schema. If you have a physical location, LocalBusiness schema with address and hours.

Implementation checklist

Add as JSON-LD in the of each relevant page. Validate at Google's Rich Results Test and Schema.org Validator. Keep it consistent across pages. Update when content changes (especially dates and prices). Re-check our AI Visibility Check to confirm it's detected.
